Gyanesh Rai intervjua i Tvedestrandsposten

Gyanesh skriver: “As Nepal was trying to recover a bit from the first major-quake, a second earthquake of 7.4 M hit Nepal again on 12th May with the epicenter near Mt. Everest. It is estimated now that after the second quake, more than 90% of houses in Solukhumbu is damaged, either partially or totally.”

Innsamlingsaksjonen Støtt Solukhumbu har kontonummer 1207.87.95547, og målet er å bygge opp igjen den gamle tre-roms barneskolen og bygge nytt bibliotek i tilknytning til skolen.

There are good news about our project. We are excited to share this to you all. We would like to summarise the latest progress on our project in the following points:

  1. Last Sunday(27.07), we invited our friends and families at Mies house in Sagesund, Tvedestrand(South of Norway) in the “Nepal-evening”. There were around 45 guests. We served
Bøker fra bokbyen til Nepal, engelskspråklige bøker til biblioteket.

Nepal hageselskapthem food and drink. But they had to pay for the food 😉 sounds weird, right?Nobody pays for food when they are invited to someones home for dinner. But wait…. all the money(10450 Kr) that was collected that evening went to our project ( Mhmmmm, that makes sense). We played also lottery after the main dish and we gave out a poncho, a bottle of wine and a cap(signed by Espen;) as the prizes. It was quite an international evening with people from India, Denmark, Nepal(off course) and Switzerland apart from Norway. We hope everyone enjoyed the evening and we would like to thank all of you who were there and supporting our cause. Special thanks to Mie who spent couple of days to plan and prepare the food. Yummy, the food was delicious!!

  1. The same evening, Jan Kløvstad from Bokbyen Tvedestrand(https://www.bokbyen-skagerrak.no/) donated 6 big boxes of English books for our proposed library. Guess what?… He came with 3 more boxes of English books the next day. Whoa!!! Now we really got more pressure to build the library. We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to him for his kind contribution. (Gyanesh is little bit worried that when he travels to Nepal he has to adjust all his things in hand baggage as the luggage will be full of books;) It’s gonna be fun!!

  1. Mie and Gyanesh got interviewed by a journalist, Olav Loftesnes from Tvedestrandsposten, a local newspaper, after hearing about our project from Jan. The article is written so excellently and got published yesterday covering a whole middle page. Thanks a lot to Olav for coming all the way to Sagesund and covering about Nepal-earthquake and our activities. I hope we will get more contribution from the people of Tvedestrand after reading this article.(by the way we already got a few promises, Thanks to Olav and the whole Tvedestrandsposten family).

  1. Now, we are over 100.000 NOK… 101886,50 NOK as of 01.07. Even though, we reached the first cost estimate for the school, we are not jumping directly to the library because we don’t have enough money for the library now and also we want to finish building the school first, as the real cost of school construction might go higher than the estimated cost. Additionally, as there is a monsoon season in Nepal now, transporting things is almost impossible in the hills and construction process has to be halted few times due to the rainfall.

''En bokby er fantasi satt ut i praksis. La meg kalle antikvariatene og bokstedene for bokbyens gledeshus: Gleden over bøker, gleden i bøker, gleden av bøker. Når vi åpner dem, åpner de oss. Og som en bokby blir Tvedestrand større enn seg selv.''

Lars Saabye Christensen, åpningstale i Bokbyen ved Skagerrak, 28. juni 2003.
